How do precision screwdriver sets differ from watchmaker's screwdrivers?
Precision screwdrivers are often mentioned in the same breath as watchmaker's screwdrivers. Although both tools can often be used for the same application, there are still some differences. Watchmaker's screwdrivers differ from precision screwdrivers in the following ways:
- They are specially designed for extremely small screw profiles that are installed in watches. The profile width is often around 0.5 mm.
- Their handle shape is usually cylindrical and the material used is roughened metal. There is no ergonomic handle with different zones. As a result, the feel and grip are not as pleasant as they are with presicion screwdriver sets.
- Watchmaker's screwdrivers are shorter than the handles of precision screwdrivers.
- Watchmaker screwdriver sets do not contain special profiles such as the Pentalobe or the Y-type profile
Presicion screwdriver with fast-turning zone for greater efficiency
Many precision screwdrivers are equipped with so-called "quick-turning zones". This is a special handle feature: The end piece of the presicion screwdriver handle is movable and fitted with a quick-turn cap. You can press this quick-release cap firmly into the heel of your hand. This allows the small screwdriver to be turned or "whirled" more quickly. This allows you to screw more efficiently. You also have to apply less pressure when turning. The latter reduces the risk of damaging your workpiece.
